Atra Asdou (SAG-AFTRA + AEA,) is an actor/writer/comedian from Chicago, now based in New York City. She is a rare talent who commands traditional stage dramas (Steppenwolf, Goodman, Lookingglass, Yale Repertory) as well as sketch and improvised comedy for sold-out crowds (The Second City, iO Chicago, Brooklyn Comedy Collective).
She has recently co-starred in Max's Somebody Somewhere and South Side, and performed in Succession writer Susan Soon He Stanton's Today is My Birthday at Yale Repertory Theatre.
She is an ensemble member at Lookingglass Theatre where she has been awarded two writers in residencies for her full-length play Iraq, But Funny. Iraq, But Funny won a 2024 MAPFund Grant and will be premiering at Lookingglass Theatre summer of ‘25.
Atra also wrote and performed three original, critically acclaimed satirical sketch revues for The Second City Chicago. Her debut feature screenplay IZZA was a beloved finalist at The Chicago International Film Festival Industry Days, and her short films, Renee` and Fever have earned festival laurels from around the world. Atra lives in NYC, performing standup around the city and improvising at Brooklyn Comedy Collective with her improv groups: Mariano’s Piano Lounge and Donna's Beef.
As a comedian, Atra has opened for Katie Rich, Maz Jobrani, and Janeane Garofalo. She is repped by Gray Talent Group for Theatre/Film/TV & VO acting.
